Homemade Sambar Powder /Sambar Masala recipe

DESCRIPTION:  Sambar Powder at home with detailed pictures and video recipe. One can easily prepare it using the spices which are available in your kitchen. Fresh and aromatic ,homemade sambar powder made with roasted spices. 

INGREDIENTS :

1/2 cup Coriander seeds/ Dhaniyalu  

1/8 cup Red lentil/Masoor dal

1tbs Rice

1tsp Cumin seeds/Jeera

1/2tsp Peppercorns/Miriyalu

1/4tsp Fenugreek seeds/Menthulu

1tsp Turmeric

6-8 Red chilies




                                                                          

 INSTRUCTIONS:Here is the video for this recipe

1.Add masoor dal to a bowl and rinse it  with water thoroughly. Filter water and dry it on a paper towel.

2.Add rice to a bowl and rinse it  with water thoroughly. Filter water and dry it on a paper towel.

3.Heat the pan and add coriander seeds to it .Dry roast them till there is a strong aroma. Transfer them to a bowl.

4. Add cumin seeds/jeera ,peppercorn, and fenugreek seeds to the pan and dry roast them too. Transfer them into a bowl.

5.Add rinsed and dried masoor dal to the pan and dry roast them till they get separated. Transfer them into a bowl.

6.Add rinsed and dried rice to the pan and dry roast them till they get separated. Transfer them into a bowl.

7.Add red chilies to the pan and dry roast them .Transfer them into a bowl .I used kashmir red chilies as they are less spicy and gives nice red color to the powder.  

8.Add turmeric and all the dry roasted ingredients to  the blender. Blend them into a fine powder .The specific amounts of each ingredient that I used, will result in 3/4th cup of sambar powder .Store it in an airtight container or a zip lock. Stays fresh up to one month in your kitchen shelf.

 

9.Fresh ,aromatic ,homemade sambar powder is ready!!

*Note : Dry roast coriander seeds ,dal, and rice separately as the roasting time varies.
